Welcome to the Native American and Indigenous Studies Undergraduate Certificate Program
The Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS) program at the University of Texas at Austin has a global, comparative focus with a particular strength in the Americas. NAIS supports students and faculty whose research engages with the languages, cultures, histories, and current political struggles of indigenous peoples. The program provides university-wide recognition for the work of professors and graduate students in the field; establishes a community of scholars dedicated to the field; and facilitates university-wide coordination of events such as conferences and visits by activists, authors, scholars, and other speakers. NAIS also provides a home on campus for indigenous undergraduate and graduate students.
Each semester a list of courses that fulfill the certificate program will be advertised and may be obtained from the faculty contact representatives or the department undergraduate coordinators. These courses will range from the study of indigenous peoples across the globe to courses focusing on the United States and Latin America.
